Getting the Stars On :: Exercising!
05 Sep 2010I’m really enjoying keeping up with my goal of exercising at least 3 times per week :) I didn’t think I’d enjoy exercising this early on into my recommitment to be an athlete, but forcing myself to just do it is ACTUALLY working — suprise, surprise :P — and I’m finding myself craving exercise on a more daily basis.
Cory and I had a discussion yesterday about how much I want to exercise harder, to push myself much more than I have been (so as to achieve that fit dream body I want) and he suggested that I start borrowing his truck to go to the gym. I know he’d offered it to me before, but back then I wasn’t really into exercise yet and didn’t see the point of doing anything but walking and running and weights at home (baby steps). But now! Yes! This is awesome news!
So in addition to the 2-3 times per week that I’m running and the 1-2 times per month that I’m bicycling with Cory, I want to start going to the gym once a week to do spinning. I’ve taken spinning before and it was zomggg incredibly hard but incredibly fun, too :) End Point: I know it will push me.
I also want to get back into rock climbing, but maybe not until November when I aim for a minimum of 4 days of exercise per month. Right now with the running and bicycling and possible spinning, it still averages out 3 times per week minimum, and sometimes 4 times (which isn’t bad at all :P).
I’m also doing pull-ups and push-ups a few times a week to build strength, but I know I need to be strength training more to burn fat. I plan to add in regular weight training, such as kettlebells, in November. (Side note – I consider rock climbing to be a strength training as well; My heart rate stays in the lower fat-burning zone — 145-160 BPM — most of the time, only occasionally jumping to cardio — 160-190 BPM — rates, and most of the time I’m lifting my body weight precisely with my arms or legs.)
For now I’m happy to be running consistently and bicycling with Cory. I can’t wait to add in spinning!
